NY1 News' "New Yorker of the Week" segment

July was an especially exciting month for the IASC thanks to an appearance by Club President Norma Reinhardt Mascarotti on local news station NY1 News as their "New Yorker of the Week", a segment that showcases New York residents who do impactful volunteer work for their communities. Norma, who also serves as a New York State ombudsman working for the rights of the elderly and volunteers for Housing Works, which benefits people living with HIV and AIDS, more than qualifies for this honor.

At the suggestion of IASC publicity committee member Edgar Trinidad, producers from NY1 News taped Norma on July 13 as she worked with the Rusk children alongside the pediatric rehabilitation staff at Rusk Institute and at one of the Housing Works thrift shops. Dr. Steven Flanagan, Director of Rusk Institute, was featured in the segment as well, commenting on how the IASC’s ongoing efforts to support Rusk have benefitted the pediatric patients over the years.
